Currently, the
library is in a home given to the City of
Schulenburg by Charles and Emma Matula. In
Mr. Matula's Last Will and Testament, he
bequeathed his home to his sister, Emma, with
the request she give the home to the City of
Schulenburg for a public library and that the
Schulenburg Literary Club be given the use of
the living room for their meetings. In
1975, following the death of Emma, the home was
given to the City of Schulenburg, and it has
been the home of the Schulenburg Public Library
ever since. Prior to that, the library was
located in the old City Hall.
The present library has 1,100 square feet of
library space. The proposed building for
the new library will have 8,100 square feet
attractively designed to encourage library use,
and is estimated to cost $1.2 million, including
parking area and landscaping. The Stanzel
Family Foundation has donated property just
north of the Stanzel Model Aircraft Museum, a
location ideal for students from Blinn College,
Schulenburg Campus, as well as students from
both the public school and St. Rose.

Today's library provides a treasure of
information for research, large print books,
videos and periodicals, all in addition to
books, which remain the core of the collection.
For nearly 30 years the current library has
served our community well, supplying reading
material to accommodate the diverse cultures,
interests and pursuits of its readers.
As the tradition of
private giving gave us our current library in
1975, we want to sustain Charles Matula's
commitment for generations to come. Local
City funds will cover salaries and maintenance
of the new library. We are relying on
fundraisers, grants, endowments, corporate
contributions, and individual contributions, to
construct this state-of-the-art facility -
Donations from people like you! Our
vision is to create a supportive environment for
lifelong learning by people of all ages,
abilities, and backgrounds who live, work and
study in the Schulenburg, Texas area.
Please help us
reach our ambitious fundraising goal of $1.2
million by July 1, 2005 by contributing to the
New Library Building Fund. Construction
can begin once funds have been raised.
Make your tax-deductible gift in any way that
works best for you - outright cash gift, pledge
for up to two years, transfer of stocks,
designated gift, or commemorative naming
opportunity. WE CAN'T DO IT WITHOUT YOU
- THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT! |
